Handmade Valentine Gifts Gifts Make

A handmade Valentine's Day gift is the perfect way to show someone how special they are. There are many romantic themed craft projects that are suitable for crafters of all experience levels. A handmade gift is crafted with love and will always be much appreciated.

Handmade Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Many types of handmade Valentine's Day gifts can be tailored to the recipient and simple variations can personalise the gift to make it extra special. Ideas for handmade gifts include:

1. Handmade jewellery

Whether it's cuff-links for a man or earrings for a lady, handmade jewellery is a thoughtful gift for Valentine's Day and other romantic themed occasions. Small items of jewellery are quick to make using materials such as polymer clay. Photo jewellery can be made by embedding photos in resin and this makes a very personal Valentine's Day gift.

2. Romantic candles

Candles are another traditional gift that have long been associated with romance. Candles can be made at home with relative ease. However an alternative to making a candle from scratch is to decorate a plain shop bought candle with ribbons and embellishments that can be removed before the candle is lit.

3. Soap

Soap makes a luxurious gift for Valentine's Day. While traditional handmade soap involves working with oils and lye, the type of soap known as 'melt and pour' is easy to work with at home and can be melted in a domestic microwave. Package handmade soap into a gift basket with other bathtime treats to make an extra special gift.

4. Scrapbook

Scrapbooks are a lovely way to record and share special memories. Make a gift of a scrapbook by collecting photos and mementos of special and significant occasions to present to a loved one. Items that are ideal for including are photos, postcards of places visited, ticket stubs or programs, menus from restaurants and other special keepsakes.

5. Handmade flowers

Roses and other flowers are one of the mainstays of Valentine's Day. Make flowers from fabric or paper to give a handmade twist to this traditional gift idea. Handmade flowers are easy to make and can be displayed the whole year round.

How to Make a Handmade Valentine's Day Gift Extra Special

Here are some tips to help make a Valentine's Day gift a gift to be long treasured:

Remember that a gift for a loved one is more about demonstrating love rather than technical ability. Therefore don't worry if the gift isn't perfect. Every imperfection is a way of demonstrating that the gift has been lovingly made by hand.

Don't forget the packaging. Even the most basic of Valentine's Day gifts can be given an extra special handmade touch by presenting the gift in attractive handmade packaging. Gift boxes and bags are easy to make and can be created in a wide variety of styles and sizes to match any gift idea. Add colour coordinated ribbons, gift tags and other embellishments to finish the gift packaging with a flourish.

Craft kits are a good compromise for new crafters or people wanting to try a different technique or craft. These contain everything required to make items as well as instructions.

A handmade gift is a great way to show someone that they are special. This needn't involve a lot of special materials or knowledge and even very simple handmade gifts will be much appreciated.
